Emma’s eco eatery

There’s a very interesting story behind DLC Café at Soestdijk Station. It is housed in the former waiting room commissioned by Queen Emma in 1897 so she could wait for her train in complete comfort.

“You can enjoy delicious salads, quiches and sandwiches made from locally sourced ingredients in what used to be the royal station waiting room.”

Soestdijk Station was the Dutch royal family’s railway station for no fewer than 90 years until 1996 when commercial companies moved into the building. Since 2011, it has almost regained its former function as a fine place to ‘wait’ as Queen Emma would have understood the term. Nowadays you can take your time to have cake and a cup of coffee or lunch. At DLC Café they serve food made with locally sourced ingredients. In fact, DLC stands for Daily Local Cooking.

Nice to know!

On Thursdays and Fridays, you eat what you’re given at DLC Café as the ‘platform dish’ is the only choice on the menu. There is always a vegetarian alternative though!
