Noordwijk is surrounded by outstanding cities, such as Leiden. What can you see and do there, though, and what experiences await? You can of course join a VVV (tourist office) walk or just go and explore the ‘city of discoveries’ on your own.
With all its gardens, windmills, churches city gates, etc., Leiden can boast some 2,800 monuments. The Waag in the city centre is not to be missed. This was the weigh house where goods used to be weighed. These days it’s a popular meeting place where Leiden’s locals get together for a coffee or a beer. Be sure to visit the Koornbrug, the bridge where corn used to be traded. When you’ve seen enough monuments, head to the Pieters District with its boutiques, galleries and restaurants.

Prinses Beatrix, King Willem-Alexander and other member of the royal family lived on the Rapenburg when they were students. In the 17th century, this canal became the most important and chic area of the city, inhabited by professors and merchants.
