Hungry? Did you know that you can also sit down in our hostel for an extensive dinner buffet? In any case, your breakfast is always included. Want to go out during the day? Then bring a packed lunch. Would you rather have lunch at the table? Book this in advance of your stay.

A barbecue is also possible on request. Allergies or special dietary requirements? Let us know and we'll take it into account.

Things to do in Heemskerk

Heemskerk is buzzing!

Going to Heemskerk with a group? Great fun of course! But where do you start organising your trip? We are happy to share our favourite tips with you to have an unforgettable time!

A SELECTION OF FREE ACTIVITIES

  • The hostel is located close to the beach, the ideal place to organise a great fun and games afternoon. Organise a football tournament, swimming competition or sandcastle building contest.
  • At Stayokay Heemskerk, you sleep in a castle. How cool is that? Organise your own treasure hunt in and around the castle, make it extra exciting by doing it at night. Do you dare to pass the ancient prison?
  • Animal Farm is one of the smallest zoos in the Netherlands. What once started as a petting zoo, is now home to many different exotic animal species. Open seven days a week and free of charge.
  • Walk a “Rondje Heemskerk” (Heemskerk Round-trip). Discover what Heemskerk has to offer during this free walking route. From the forest to the watchtower, to the village, there's plenty to do on the way.
  • Visit National Park Zuid-Kennemerland. This beautiful nature reserve is close to the hostel, freely accessible and perfect for exploring by bike or on foot.

 

A SELECTION OF PAID ACTIVITIES

  • Become an archaeologist yourself and discover the fascinating history of North Holland in Museum Huis van Hilde.
  • The old World War II Atlantikwall defence line can be found along the entire North Sea coast. Near Heemskerk, you'll find the War Museum Fort Veldhuis. An interesting museum located in the old German bunkers.
  • The IJmuider Zee- en Havenmuseum is a maritime museum housed in the old fisheries school in IJmuiden. Discover the rich history of shipping and fishing.
  • Pay a visit to one of the most iconic places in the Netherlands, the Zaanse Schans. Easy to reach from Heemskerk and nice to see what all the tourists see for once!
